Tiffany Style
Tiffany style is the generic name used to describe the many and varied types of glass developed from 1878 to 1933 at the Tiffany Studios, by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
Tiffany was an interior designer, son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, founder of Tiffany & Co. In 1878, Louis Comfort Tiffany’s interest turned towards the creation of stained glass, when he opened his own studio and glass foundry. Tiffany wanted his glass to transmit texture and rich colors. His inventiveness both as a designer and producer of windows and of stained glass lamps was to become renowned.
The advent of electric lighting accelerated the development of Tiffany glass. Thus, the electric lamp soon came to be ranked high as “art”. Tiffany’s lamps were seldom inexpensive. They were sought after by hundreds of well-heeled buyers.
Tiffany-inspired designs in the ETC. collections include:
L004 Dragonfly shade of textured glass.
L064. Spider web/apple blossom design.
