Big Cats in Art

The “Big Cats” (or “Great Cats”) include the four members of the genus, Pathera: the tiger, lion, jaguar, and leopard, and sometimes, the cheetah, snow leopard, and cougar/puma/mountain lion.

These beautiful, regal animals are found naturally in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. They’ve figured in mythology and in art throughout the ages. Particularly in Art Deco, the Big Cats were exotic and streamlined, personifying speed and grace.
